GENERAL INTRODUCTION

In recent years, alongside the shifting dynamics of trade, investment, supply chains, and capital flows, Asia has increasingly emerged as a dynamic centre of growth for international arbitration. The demand for dispute resolution in the region has grown not only in volume but also in complexity and sophistication, placing higher expectations on quality, flexibility, user-friendliness, and case management efficiency in arbitral proceedings.

Against this backdrop, international arbitral institutions, both globally and within Asia, are entering a period of significant adjustment to meet evolving market demands. From revising procedural rules and enhancing case management systems to embracing technological innovation and adapting to changing dispute structures and user expectations, arbitral institutions are continuously reshaping their operations to maintain competitiveness, credibility, and responsiveness in the global dispute resolution landscape. In doing so, Asia is not only expanding its role as a vibrant arbitration market but also increasingly asserting itself as a space that contributes to shaping new standards in international arbitration.

Within the framework of the Vietnam ADR Week – VAW 2026, the “International Arbitration Institutions Roundtable: Institutional Developments and Practical Experiences in International Arbitration” is convened as an open forum for dialogue among arbitral institutions in the region. This roundtable aims to highlight key emerging trends and share practical experiences in recent years. It will further explore Asia’s growing prominence as a new centre of gravity in international arbitration, the expanding role of regional arbitral institutions, and the institutional, competitive, and professional standards required to sustain this momentum.
